Date: 1 September 2013
Place: Esplanade Theatres on the Bay
Race: Singapore Safra Bay Run / AHM 2013
So, after the disappointment of not being able to run our last race, the Yellow Fellows were all raring to go for this one. Not only were we excited to run, we were also excited because we have only just got our new kit from Adidas Singapore.
We met nice and early to make sure that we got everything in order then slowly made our way through the throngs of runners towards the starting line, but not before making some pitstops to say hi to friends, to visit the loo, and to see some of the 21km runners making their way to the finishing line.
We finally got to the starting line and after taking a quick team picture, we started making our way closer to the front.
The weather held up, and it was a nice and cool morning. All the ingredients for a great run ahead. Before we knew it, we were flagged off and as usual, Sijie and Joel took off. I tried staying with them for the first kilometre or so but decided to settle into my own race pace and take it from there.
This year’s route was slightly different and I have to say, it was relatively easier. Water points were aplenty and the only “downside”, if I had to put one in, was the stairs up to the Helix bridge just in front of the Art Science Museum. The Helix Bridge was also vibrating and shaking with all the runners on it and that caused most of us to just stop and jog/walk that section.
I did not notice any bottlenecks for the 10km route but from what I heard, there were a couple on the 21km route.
Fast forward to the end of the race, I noticed that I was well below my usual timings for a 10km race and I also realized that it was possible that I could possibly clock my very first PB for this year. That spurred me on to finish strong and go for it.
After crossing the finish line and meeting up with the rest of the Fellows. General consensus was that the route seemed a little short of 10k but nonetheless, all of us clocked fairly quick times and I also clocked a PB.
Now, if you ask me, that would overall be considered a good run.
So, if you think what we’re doing here is worth supporting, help us, the Yellow Fellows, by either helping us spread the word, or donating to our cause, the Singapore Cancer Society.
All donations are fully tax deductible and I would also like to, on behalf of the Yellow Fellows thank all those who have supported us so far, Adidas Singapore, Oakley Singapore, Quirky Designs and Belif Singapore. Also, all those who have donated and helped us spread the word. Thank you so very much for believing in us and everything you’ve done for us.
So, till our next race…. run hard, play hard!
