Date: 31 March 2013
Place: F1 Pit Lane
Race: 2XU Compression Run 2013
So the Yellow Fellows gathered once again for our 2nd race of the year. This time, it was for the 2XU Compression Run 2013.
We met at the Marina Square Carpark and proceeded to the Start Line to meet up with some VIPs because the Organisers wanted to introduce us to them. We also met up with Paviter Singh, who was also a Charity Athlete raising funds for the Singapore Cancer Society. He however, was taking part in the North Face 100 in Sydney. Check out his fundraising page here.
Now, back to the race, after a bit of rah-rah at the beginning of race, we were ushered to the start line and waited for the air horns to blare. Before we knew it, we were off and running. The pace was good, maybe just a tad too fast for me, but after about 500m, I regulated it and settled into a comfortable pace.
What was heartwarming were the pats on the back and high fives we got along the way with runners coming up to us and saying “Great job guys!” or “Way to go guys!” or “Well done guys!” We want to thank everyone for their kind support and for believing in us.
The route was great, no bottlenecks, mostly flat with just a few slopes. At the end of it, all of us bettered our timings and finished the race strong. That was more than what we could have asked for. This was only our 2nd race and there was definitely room for improvement and lots to aim for. More importantly, there is the awareness to be raised as well as funds. If you want to find out more about us, check out our FB page here, or if you would like to donate to our cause, visit our donation page here.
At the end of the race, we even had a runner come up to us to tell us that his wife was a cancer survivor, and although she wasn’t running, she would have loved to meet us and thank us personally for what we were doing. That really makes what we are doing really worth it!
Now, if you were wondering how you could also be a Charity Athlete like us, and make your runs more meaningful, check out the website here and just sign up there! You can also find out more about the Singapore Cancer Society and get updates from them by liking their FB page.
And… how can we not thank our sponsors who believe in us and are supporting us through our quest to reach our target, Adidas Singapore, Oakley, and Quirky Designs.
