I guess, if push comes to shove, and I had only one day to choose to be patriotic, it would be around this time when our Nation celebrates it’s birthday.
My father-in-law managed to score some preview tickets for this year’s parade and handed them to me to enjoy. Now, I knew that my folks would love to go but could never be bothered to push and rush with the rest of the people also heading to the parade. But, if I were to twist their arms a bit, they wouldn’t resist.
And so…. in the hot afternoon sun, I picked them up way early and made our way to the floating platform. Ok, so the instructions said to not be seated later than 4.45pm, but I made sure we were there when they started allowing people to enter the gallery….. which was at….. 2.45pm. OK OK…. so I am kiasu, so sue me. But we did manage to get good seats which were near the action.
Like I said earlier, the sun was scorching and we were busy applying sunblock, opening and closing the umbrella each time the sun popped out from behind random cloud that just happened to pass by, and me? Well, I was being an ah pek and putting a newater soaked towel on my neck to prevent my neck from being burnt to a crisp.
In the meantime, I was having a ball of a time singing along to some good ole national songs… you know… the ones we all know the words to and yet refuse to admit it… c’mon…. I hear you humming it…..
To cut a long story short…. we survived the heat, the sun, enjoyed the parade as well as the displays and shows that came along with it…. and had a great time. (of course, I speak for myself)
If you are heading to the same place we were at on the 9th of August, you will be in for a treat!
