Celebrities Sports Club – 2nd

The Celebrities Sports Club did it’s part for charity yesterday at the Teen Challenge Dare Centre.

We took part in the Corporate 4 competition and played two games.  One was the preliminary game and the other was the finals.

In the Preliminary game, we took a bit of time to settle down and gave away a penalty which the opponent put away with ease.  The first half was mainly both teams trying to suss each other out to see if there was any weaknesses they could exploit.  We managed to hold on and we went in to the halftime break with only that one goal deficit.

We made a couple of changes for the 2nd half, and within a couple of minutes from the restart, we equalized.  And with that, the floodgates opened and we went on to win the game 5-1.  The “man of the match” award would have to go to Shaiful who scored 2 goals in that game.

The win meant we would be playing in the finals against whoever won the next preliminary game.

In the finals, we started the game with a couple of our stronger players.  Our opponents were the first to open their accounts.  There was a bit of controversy with the way our opponents scored their first goal which was from a corner because they actually pushed two of our players together with the ball into the net, but the referee allowed the goal.  Within seconds of the restart, we equalized.  A swift movement, 3 passes and the ball was in the net.  Score 1-1.

It stayed that way until the end of the 1st half.  We made some more changes for the 2nd half, and we went into the lead with a beautifully struck goal from Lloyd.  Unfortunately, some sloppy defending and a lapse in concentration caused us to concede 2 goals.

The final score was 3-2.  Apart from the loss, we came away from the game knowing that we could actually give teams a run for their money and are not the pushovers that some people think we are.

A big shout out to the good people of Adidas who kitted the whole team.  We hope we do justice to the apparel.
